Many people suffer from chronic pain in their lower limbs and back. A simple consultation with your podiatrist and a pair of custom orthotics can relieve this pain. If you are suffering from any of the following chronic issues, you may be a candidate for custom orthotics.
Plantar fasciitis, or heel pain, occurs when the ligament connecting your toes to your heel is weakened. Your plantar fascia can be strained if you spend a lot of time on your feet, your feet pronate excessively when you walk or run, or your shoes fit poorly. Orthotics will support your foot and help it pronate properly to relieve the stress on your ligaments. Make an appointment with your podiatrist to be diagnosed and fitted for your orthotics.
Knee pain can develop if your feet are not supporting the weight of your body evenly. If you are overpronating or underpronating, your feet are causing your knees to rotate inward and placing stress on your joints. Orthotics can distribute the force in your feet more evenly to reduce the impact on your knees. They can also change the alignment of your foot, which will realign your knee and eliminate pain. Your podiatrist can help you determine if the source of your knee pain is your feet or if it is caused by an injury due to overuse.
Lower back pain not caused by an injury can be the result of walking, running, or standing abnormally. When your feet do not keep your knees, hips, and spine properly aligned, you may eventually begin to experience pain in your lower back. Orthotics can realign your body to more evenly distribute your weight on your feet and relieve your back pain.

A killer pair of high heels can help make any outfit a success. However, those heels might actually be killing your feet. So, should women ditch their favorite footwear? In this video, Dr. Suzanne Levine explains that while you can continue wearing your heels, it’s a good idea to wear them in moderation.
As women grow older, proper foot care becomes more and more important. Without care, women's feet become susceptible to the single most common foot problem: bunions. Bunions can be managed using certain exercises and treatments, but they may eventually require surgery.
Are you interested in preventing bunions or are you looking to treat an existing condition? Contact All South Bay Footcare today at (310) 986-2925 to learn how we can help you care for your feet.

Ingrown toenails are extremely painful and, if not treated early, can require surgery. Although they can be hereditary, ingrown toenails are often caused by improper nail and foot care. Ill-fitting shoes, cutting toenails too short, and foot injuries can all cause your nail to grow into the surrounding flesh, rather than over it. These tips on correct toenail care can help you prevent an ingrown toenail:
-
Always trim your toenails straight across. Use toenail clippers to cut the nail and then use a nail file to remove any sharp corners. Avoid cutting your toenails in a curve to match the shape of your toe because it can cause your nails to grow into the skin surrounding your nail.
-
Keep your toenails even with the end of your toes. If they are too long, they will rub on the end of your shoe and become irritated. If they are too short, the pressure from your shoe may push them into the tissue.
-
Wear comfortable shoes that fit properly. Your toes need adequate room to move in the front of your shoe. If your shoe is too narrow or too small, your toenails do not have enough room to grow properly. If you must wear high heels or any other uncomfortable type of shoe, bring more practical shoes with you to wear whenever possible.
-
Protect your feet from trauma by wearing the proper shoes. If you work in construction or are involved in sports, wear the correct shoes for the activity. If you are not wearing protective shoes, your toenail may be hit and become lodged in the skin around your nail.
If your toenail feels hard, swollen, or tender, you may have an ingrown toenail. It is best to wear open-toed shoes for several days to prevent any more damage to the nail. If the pain persists, schedule an appointment with your podiatrist. All South Bay Footcare in the Los Angeles area can treat your ingrown toenail and prevent it from returning.
